It’s been running non-stop for 5 days now without any burn in, or restarts. Although I do feel somewhat wasteful leaving the screen on 24/7 on my desk. ![]() As soon as I removed the screen sleep option in the Android settings, it’s worked perfectly. It would randomly reboot if left to its own devices every few hours. On that page in the comments section, it’s suggested that you need to switch on the following settings:įeatures & Permissions > Device admin functions (tick) Features & Permissions > Root functions (experimental) (tick) This was fine whilst sat on the desk, but if this was in the wall, it would be a problem. The only way you could get it to come to life, was a hard reboot. It would turn on from sleep for the first couple of times (after some frantic hand waving) and then it was as if the panel got bored, and shut itself down. Unfortunately though, it never quite worked properly. I eagerly got to work sideloading Automagic, and managed to get it set up. You can even vary the sensitivity (distance) to the screen itself. In essence, this allows you to put the screen to sleep until you approach it. My Boiler CCTV feed Example of Reolink FeedĪs I searched Blakadder’s site, I also found another entry here for turning on the proximity sensor. My Reolink CCTV feeds are brought into the panel without problem, and using the free standing enclosure that ITEAD were kind enough to send me, means i have a miniature CCTV display sat next to my keyboard. My phone camera does not do this justice! Home-Assistant Interface ![]() The panel is responsive, bright and the text is sharp, making everything easily legible. Despite it’s small size, it was very useable (increasing the font size in Advanced System Settings helped here). Once installed, I was looking at the Home-Assistant login screen. I downloaded the apk from here (choose the latest version), and then ‘adb pushed’ it to the panel. I’ve never messed around with Kiosk or any of the other “skins” but I wanted to see if I could actually connect everything up first. When deciding what flavor of Home-Assistant to use, I decided to go for the traditional companion app. I subsequently found a way to increase the actual font size, which I didn’t know about until after I took the screen shots, so keep that in mind when you’re looking at the photos! How Small? Adding Home-Assistant I also turned off the clicking noise (navigation) as that was getting on my nerves. In the settings I enabled the traditional Android navigation buttons, turned off the screen saver / screen dim / screen lock. I went through a few things to enable the panel to be more user friendly. Additional Apps needed Additional settings ![]() Blakadder might have already fixed that up, so YMMV. I can’t quite remember the exact step, it’s been a few weeks already, but it was just a case of either moving the files into the location referenced in the script, or amending the script slightly to match the original location of the files. The only points I would like to make are that on one of the commands, I needed to amend the script slightly, as the location of the file it referred to, was in a different folder. I think recently a host of youtubers have also cottoned on and made a variety of videos outlining the steps. I don’t want to list them all out here, feel free to go through his tutorial which can be found on his blog here. Once connected, I went through the rest of the commands in order. Blakadder did go through some other steps, in case you were unable to connect via ADB but for me it was seamless. All you need to do is make sure you ‘cd’ into the folder where you have your various downloaded apk’s and go from there. It was simply a case of using powershell and the command:įor me, as I’d been using ADB previously to speak with my Nvidia Shield, I didn’t need to set any ports up. I already had the IP address of the panel from my router’s dhcp server. This is just the best package manager for windows. Home-Assistant running on the NSPanel Pro Another Home-Assistant Screen Installing APKs to the Panel In summary, you essentially connect to the panel using ADB, sideload a variety of apps to the device’s storage, and then one by one, run them, until you’re in a position to run Home-Assistant. He was already a good few steps ahead of me. It didn’t take me to long to stumble upon several posts and tutorials by Blakadder. I began searching for a way to hack the panel. ![]() Whilst the Sonoff didn’t quite have the polish of the Violet, I knew that as it was based on Android, the OS was infinitely more open and able to run a myriad of apps. After a few days of playing with the NSPanel Pro, I decided I wanted to integrate it more closely with Home-Assistant and Node-red.

Unfortunately, as Ryan Packer reported for The Urbanist, the entire city of Seattle, and Washington State as a whole, has seen a rise in traffic deaths and serious injuries in the last couple years. Tacoma has 15 neighborhood business districts that would be impacted by the change.Ĭhanges in traffic crashes and speeds after implementation of the 25 mile per hour speed limit in case study areas in Seattle. For arterial streets in neighborhood business districts, the City is in the midst of an engineering study around reducing speed limits to 25 miles per hour. ![]() The City is also exploring funding options that would help make the residential street speed reduction permanent. Street design and traffic speeds were also assessed as contributing to unsafe road conditions, leading the City pursue a Vision Zero initiative.Īs part of that work, Tacoma is conducting a speed reduction study in which drivers are encouraged to maintain speeds of 20 miles per hour or less on residential streets. At that point the City had recognized the problem needed more attention and was in the midst of implementing a Safe Routes to School program to help children walk and roll safely to school. The following year another Tacoma middle schooler was seriously injured while walking to her school bus stop by a suspected drunk driver. However, others noted it was clear that not only behavioral changes and awareness-raising would be enough to make Tacoma’s streets safer. “If you stop you should not wave on any children unless you are sure and confident no one is jetting out around you,” said Annie Schneider, who assisted the girls at the scene, in an interview with KING 5 News. Reporting at the time emphasized that the girls chose to cross the road because a driver in a right lane waved them forward, while, unbeknownst to them, another car sped forward in the left lane. While the problem has long been serious in the city, Tacoma leadership was spurred into action for reform after a driver hit and injured two middle school youth on their way to school in 2015. ![]() The City of Tacoma estimates that almost 80 people are killed or seriously injured in traffic crashes on its streets every year. According to data from the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) between 20, out of approximately 3,400 reported collisions in Tacoma, almost 400 resulted in someone being killed or seriously injured. The need to create safer streets for people who walk and roll in Tacoma is significant. The survey will be open to the public through March 4th. As part of that work, the City has created a Vision Zero survey available online in six languages: English, Russian, Khmer, Vietnamese, Spanish, and Korean. Now it is in the process of developing an action plan to be presented to the City Council for approval this coming summer. In 2020, the Tacoma City Council passed a resolution that committed the City to creating a Vision Zero initiative to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injury collisions by 2035. Due to its small size, it falls victim to predators, including larger birds of prey found in the same habitat. Since its range is dependent upon weavers for nesting, the pygmy falcon has a very limited distribution. It is listed in Appendix II of CITES (Convention in International Trade in Endangered Species), which regulates the import and export of animals for the pet trade. ![]() The African pygmy falcon is a fairly common resident throughout its range and is not currently endangered. To keep warm when chilly, the falcon fluffs its feathers. The sociable weavers happily continue to add and maintain the nest in spite of having an uninvited roommate. While the falcon pairs enjoy the benefits of the weavers’ work, the weavers gain a pair of bodyguards to protect them from snakes, such as cobras, that prey upon the nest chambers. The falcons do not bother the weavers beyond the eviction of 1-2 pairs and occasionally killing a chick when other food is scarce. These huge nests provide a safe, weatherproof environment for the falcons. These falcons are rapid and agile in flight, darting through the air in quick bursts, similar to those of a woodpecker Because of their small size, African pygmy falcons are able to share the nest colony of sociable weavers. They usually roost during the hotter parts of the day. The pygmy falcon brings the dead weaver chick back to its nest chamber to feed it to its own young, hungry family.Īfrican pygmy falcons are diurnal, with activity peaks in the early morning and late afternoon. The pygmy falcon strikes and kills a sociable weaver chick this is uncommon, but necessary, when food is scarce. They remain with their parents for 1-2 months after fledging before becoming completely independent. While both parents incubate for about 30 days, the female’s share of the task is largerThe male provides his mate, and later the chicks, with food. The chicks are helpless at birth, but fledge in 28-30 days. Each chamber is enclosed and is reached from below through a narrow vertical tunnel. The falcon pair evicts 1-2 pairs of weavers from their nests, then the female lays from 2-4 eggs. No nest is built instead the pair moves into a chamber in the nest colony of sociable weavers, which is comprised of a huge haystack structure built into a tree and contains chambers of up to 50 active weaver nests. The female performs exaggerated tail-wagging displays. ► Tasty meal A male African pygmy falcon feasts upon a large lizard in the savannah.Ĭourtship begins in the summer and includes the male feeding his mate. Perching from a tall tree, the pygmy falcon watches the ground below for movement from a potential meal.Once its victim is sighted, the pygmy falcon quickly dives to the ground, snatching its victim in its talons, and taking it back to the perch to be eaten.Like all falcons, the African pygmyfal-con regurgitates 1-2 pellets daily which contain all the indigestible food fragments, such as fur and bones. In spite of its small size, the African pygmy falcon is a voracious predator, like birds of prey. The African pygmy falcon mostly feeds on insects and lizards, though occasionally rodents and small birds are consumed. The entrance is located at the bottom of the nest colony the falcon hangs upside down in order to enter the nest chamber. BREEDINGĪ female pygmy falcon flies toward a large nest colony of sociable weavers that the falcon exploits for its own use. ![]() In the Kalahari region of Africa, pygmy falcons occupy about one out of every four sociable weaver colonies. The pygmy falcon’s range is dictated by that of the sociable weaver it even avoids otherwise suitable savannah habitat that is devoid of weaver nests. Unlike other falcons, the eggs of the pygmy falcon are pure white, consistent with many birds that lay eggs in concealed nests. The pygmy falcon occasionally shares the nests of the white-headed buffalo weaver and those of the sparrow weaver. The African pygmy falcon typically avoids open forests and forest edges. This falcon also frequents the huge nests of weavers, especially the sociable weaver, Philetairus socius, sharing its roosting and nesting site. In either part of the continent, the pygmy falcon inhabits the arid and semiarid savannah and scrubland, which features sparse groundcover and scattered large trees dotting the landscape. The African pygmy falcon lives in two distinct and widely separated populations in Africa: one in the southwestern part of the continent and the other in the northeast. HABITATĪ female falcon perches at the top of a tall tree. Unlike other birds of prey that build a large solitary nest, the African pygmy falcon lives alongside a friendly host, the sociable weaver, and adopts a chamber in the weaver nest. ![]() They built two additional buildings totaling 15,000 square feet (1,400 m 2) on the company site between 19.
